€œYou're not really helping your case by bringing that up,€ he grumbled, making me smile.
€œLook, you and I, we're not just husband and wife in this marriage; we can't afford to be. Our lives are farther than a hop, skip and a jump away from the picket fence. Don't get me wrong. I love you, and I love being your wife, but I want to be your partner too. You can't do this without risking serious legal repercussions. Let me help.€
He sighed, tilting his head heavenward before meeting my eyes again. €œThis isn't your responsibility though, Sugar, it's mine.€
€œFunny. I recall saying the same thing to you when it came to you wanting to co-parent my daughter,€ I countered.
€œOur daughter,€ he corrected automatically.
€œExactly! Our daughter, our marriage... our burdens and responsibilities that are attached to living the way that we do. That's part of marriage too, you know, sharing in each others joys and burdens alike. I shared my joy with you. Now share this burden with me.€
€œI don't think you realize what you're asking for.€
€œI'm asking to be your wife in every sense of the word. The question is, are you going to let me?€
