Cape Wine Braai Masters
In South Africa, the barbecue is known as a braai, and it is more than a way of cooking, it is a way of life. South African men are firmly convinced that they are the braai masters of the world and that a barbecue is just a poor imitation of the real thing.
It is the passion and the details that make the braai better. The nature of the braai receptacle (the bigger, the more rustic, the better); the wood (the harder to find, the slower to burn, the better); the tongs (the simpler, the longer the better); and the rituals of who turns the meat and when, what gets cooked and who gets to stand around the fire, are all important parts of South African culture.
And the truth is we do make great food on an open fire, and none do it better than the winemakers and vineyard owners of the Cape.
